January 2015

~This is a long one and I hate to edit. Don't dwell too much on my errors. ~
I am a big goal person. So we have set family goals and individual goals.  I really do love the chance I have to change and be better.  They boys are doing good at sticking to their goals, well maybe not Landon, but he has all year to "obey happily."  Or at least improve some in that area.
The only negative thing about this month has been the illness we have had.  We have had bad colds, high fevers, the stomach flu (all of us including Kayla), and now pink eye and coughs (again). Let's hope next month brings better health.
Speaking of health.  Kayla is fabulous!  Her head has healed and hasn't produced any additional problems.  But then I had complete faith that this would be the case since Don said so in the blessing he gave her at the hospital.
My health is doing ok.  I have decided that I will not have my gallbladder out.  The pain is still manageable and I am not 100% convinced I need it out.  Sure it doesn't function but my pain seems to be in my stomach.  So when money allows we will do an upper GI scope to check things out there.  For now I am trying to keep my stress level low and get enough rest.  This really seems to help me be healthy enough to do what I need to. I have recently had an epiphany regarding my health.  I think that I just might have social anxiety.  I hate pinning a name tag on things for some reason.  It to me can be a crutch and I find myself thinking, "I have social anxiety so I won't be in public because it is just too hard." My anxiety is so much that I often get headaches and sever mental blocks.  I just can't focus and keep a train of thought.  It is odd that it has become so sever over the last year and even worse since Kayla fell.  It really is hard to work through on my own. I think it has a lot to do with my introvert tendency.  I just want to be with people that know me well and think positive good things about me, not even say them really.  I just can feel when people are judging me and I always have been able to.  Enough about that.  I am working on it.  Positive thinking and developing relationships with those that will lift me up.
January was a busy month for my calling as a Primary counselor.  We started with a meet your teacher breakfast, just so the kids could get to know their teachers before the first Sunday.  This was a great success I think.  Then the first Sunday came and it was time to make sure that the kiddos get to the right class and then make sure they are okay to stay in their new classes.  Of course I didn't do this alone, but even with the 5 of us it is still a big task.  Yes we have 5 in the presidency, our primary is so large we have two secretaries. The little sunbeams (all 20 or so of them) are a tough group.  I just gave a lesson on reverence this last Sunday so let's hope that that helps them adjust better to the new setting. I come home with a big headache every week that is for sure.
Our ward also got a new bishop brick this month. Our Primary President's husband was put in as 2nd counselor so we also got a new Primary President, all the counselors stayed the same.  I am excited for the change and am glad that one of my best friends in the ward is now the President, she will be fabulous.
Landon is a sunbeam this year in Primary.  He really struggled to go to nursery.  The separation was just too much for him.  We had talked about how when the new year came he would have to go to his class and couldn't just go home and take a nap with daddy anymore.  Well first Sunday he said he wasn't going to church and pouted all morning. I help my ground and made him go to his class.  He went and loved it.  He has amazing teacher that are so kind and reach out to him, so that really helps.
Preschool for Eldon and Landon officially begun the first week of January.  Eldon needed this social time. I still feel bad that the parents that have kids his age didn't reach out to us and allow us to join their joy-school.  But he is doing school now even if it is with kids much younger than him.  He is just happy to have school and hasn't complained one bit.  Landon is rather impartial to the social thing, but he does love to learn.  He wants to do homework every day and we are making quick work through the preschool book he got for Christmas.
Eldon, Landon, and Kayla are enjoying ward playgroups that I organize on Wednesdays.  I say Kayla because she really is a little social butterfly when it comes to kids. She doesn't really love new adults, but I think it is good for her to meet new people.
Bryson was really struggling with liking piano and practicing.  But I started playing games with him every time he practices and now he can't wait to practice.  He didn't like reading either.  He is an obedient boy and does, but with a lot of murmuring. I think we have found a book series that he enjoys now so book reading isn't a big deal any more.  This will help his reading improve I hope.  The book series is Nate the Great, if anyone is interested to know.
Jaron started Jr. Jazz this month as well.  I am sad to report I think he got the worst team in the whole league. Good news, the team has improved slightly. We are encouraging him to have a good attitude and keep trying his best.  He seems to be doing great at these two things.  He has requested though to do football in the future instead of basketball. This request came before basketball started (but after I signed him up) and has only grown since his team isn't very good.
Ward ball also started for Don and he is enjoying playing basketball every Tuesday evening for fun and then Saturday's games. He's only sprained his ankle once so far so that is rather good I think.
We spent the day down at my parents at the beginning of the month and had the boys teeth cleaned and checked.  No fillings needed.  YAY!
On the 9th we were so grateful to be able to attend the weeding reception of some Texas friends.  Callie Poole from Texas moved out here to nanny, she met a great man and they got married. I knew Callie well but knew her mother even better.  We had sickness in our house that week so Kayla, Jaron, Landon, and I went to the reception.  I left feeling so uplifted.  Gayle (the mother) was so happy to see me.  She kept offering to help me with my three children.  She just made me feel important and excepted. I think that was one of the things Don and I loved most about Texas.  People there were just so genuinely caring. I made a resolve as we left to be that kind of person. Wish me luck : )
Right before Christmas Bryson asked me if I could please take him in to the doctor for his ankle. He injured his ankle when he was around 3.  He was pushed down a slide so there was force behind the ankle roll.  He sprained it bad. Since then his ankle has continued to be weak.  He often rolls it and he even started complaining that both ankles hurt all the time.  So I took him in.  This lead to X-rays. The X-rays showed that his right ankle had sustained a previous injury. Not a break though.  Anyway, long story short, he needs to wear a brace when he is active. So he wears a brace all day.  We hope that this allows it to heal.  If it does not heal then we need to see a orthopedic Dr.
Kayla is 9 months now and ALL over the place.   She officially started crawling on the 14th.  She has also become a bottomless pit.  She, like Eldon, eats and eats and eats and eats .... you get the idea, until I stop giving her food.  So we are trying to find the balance between eating enough and eating too much. She is getting teeth and this is painful for the both of us.
Now for the AWESOMEST news there is.  On January 20th, 2015 Don was offered a managers job. Yes he did accept it after much prayer and talking about it.  We didn't want to jump before we made sure it was the right choice.  Those that are a part of our life know what a big deal him getting a managers job is.  Don has been applying for a year now to manager jobs.  A few months ago he told me that he really felt he should only apply in Utah.  I had kind of accepted the fact that we most likely would be moving out of state for his first managers job then move back to Utah when we could, if ever.  But when he said that I buckled down and accepted that a manger job was most likely far off since Utah was the goal.  Jobs in Utah don't come along everyday.  But I totally overestimated my stud muffins awesomeness. He got an AM Tues-Sat job on the belt at the airport. His hours will be from 3-noon once he gets things down.  He officially starts Feb. 15th, after Valentine's day.  His current station doesn't want to loose him just yet.  We also are asked if it comes with large pay raise.  This is a yes and no question. He is so devoted to providing for us that he was working as much as he possibly could.  So he was making ok money already. But let's just say that he only worked 40 hour weeks now. Managers pay is more than double that. He will be making 10k more a year than what he makes now and working less.  I am totally sold.
We are also extremely grateful and know that we have been guided to this path. I can't stress enough how thankful I am for answered prayers and the constant guidance of our Heavenly Father.  The windows of heaven are really open to us if we can but find the faith to trust his plan for us.  It takes patience and not always making a large sum of money. And sometimes it takes moving to a new place for a while to become what he wants us to be.  I know this isn't the end of all our struggles, struggles are always there, they make us stronger.  But it is a big deal to know where we will live out a large part of our lives.  It is a hug deal to me to be able to settle down. Now to gain the patience to be able to save up for the right house.  This will take us 4-12 months we think.  I know that is a large window, but at least we have one.
Don and I were able to go to she Chin Pov speak last night.  Chin is someone that Don baptized in Cambodia.  His talk was about his life.  Is was really neat for me to hear this.  I have always loved the joy that fills Don when he talks about Cambodia and his time there. They are such happy people, even when they have so little.  It really is humbling to be in their presence.
Last thing for the month should be that Jaron earned his Wolf.  He worked hard over Christmas break to do this and will be awarded his Wolf this coming Tuesday.

This month has been a great one.  What a perfect start to an awesome year.

Kayla is 9 months

Our baby girl has grown up sooo much over the last month.
She says, "Mama" a lot and has now started exploring other sounds she can make.  She has discovered that she can suck in and blow out her bottom lip.  Very fun.
She tries to make as much noise as her brothers, so she often just starts yelling when they are being noisy.
Kayla cut another tooth, her top left tooth, but not the center left then next one over.
Kayla loves her bath time.  She has started splashing.
Just a few days ago she started crawling.  She is now getting to anything she wants rather quickly.  She still scoots a lot, but I think crawling is her new thing.
She loves food.  All food.  A few of the greens give her shivers, but she will eat anything and I am struggling to keep her fed.
Her 4 brothers simply adore her.  They are all really protective and like to hold her.
She is 16lb. 15oz. and 28inches long.

Can I just say I love this little girl so much.  She is definitely a mommy's girl.  She likes to cuddle at times which I love.  She still wakes up once to eat at night and I could probably make her sleep through the night; but I love the quiet time we have at night together where I just get to hold her.  I can't bring myself to make her sleep through the night.
